I was sick recently with a cold, while the cold itself was mild, it left some lingering symptoms like nasal congestion. I took herbs to treat and reverse the congestion, did acupuncture, yogic breathing, yoga postures, and removed some foods. But it seemed those treatments only temporarily resolved the issue. What I came to find was that a very simple facial steam inhalation with herbs, flowers, and spice worked best.

I could breathe again with ease.
I also discovered that while I was decongesting my nasal passages, my face was loving it. My face felt hydrated and moisturized.
For now the facial steam has become part of my Dinacharya (daily routine in Sanskrit). It also makes for a wonderful ritual and spa moment I look forward to. It’s great for a seasonal (Ritucharya is seasonal routine in Sanskrit) winter routine. *might be too heating in the summer, but that depends on the person
The following facial steam recipe will work well for nasal congestion, cleansing out virus’ and dust in the nose, skin hydration, reduce fine lines, opening and cleansing pores, soothes irritation on the face, decreases inflammation, can reduce acne, and increase circulation to create collagen. It also is very relaxing and smells wonderful.
Now, I don’t believe this recipe is in any ancient Ayurvedic text, which is where many of us Ayurvedic Practitioners will look for many remedies. But bringing in a little Ayurvedic wisdom, this recipe would be considered “Tridoshic”. Meaning it can be for every body type: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha dosha. If the herbs were divided, the recipe would NOT be for every body type. It’s the combination of herbs, flowers, and spice that makes it compatible. Products Needed:

A towel
Large Bowl (not plastic)
Kettle or pot for boiling water
Ingredients:
1 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp Rose Petals (edible)
1 tsp Tulsi leaves (Holy Basil)
3 cups of water
Preparation:
Add three ingredients to a wide rimmed vessel or bowl (not plastic)
Boil water
Once boiling, pour in the bowl.
Place bowl at a table where you can safely sit. Please be cautious.
Once prepared, place your face above the bowl, not in it. Your face should have enough space where you feel like your face isn’t getting burnt or too hot. It should be comfortable. Finally, drape the towel over your head and shoulders.
Sit for 10 minutes.
I will often play some relaxing music or a non-stressful podcast.
Once your time is done make sure you hydrate with water.

I bet you are glowing!
